French large black and red marble 8 day time and strike mantel clock, visible escapement, c1890
CONDITION:
this large heavy case is in very nice condition with just a very small corner edge chip. The double-sunk white porcelain dial is fine with an indistinct retailer name, the pallets are jeweled, and the thick beveled glass is intact, but the rear door glass is broken. The movement's rear plate has the Japy Freres Medaille D'Honneur stamp as well as a Howell (?), Paris in script. Hours and half hours strike on a very large steel bell. Very heavy and fragile for shipping. Ht 16"
